How to draw Squidward
Your finished Squidward Tentacles drawing!
Hello, Doodleers! Today, we’re heading back to Bikini Bottom to learn how to draw SpongeBob’s cranky but lovable neighbor—Squidward Tentacles. With his long nose, droopy eyes, and grumpy attitude, Squidward is a blast to doodle. This easy tutorial will help beginners create a recognizable Squidward without stress.
Grab your pencils, and let’s start doodling!
Quick Tip: Always start your drawing lightly with a pencil—this way, you can easily erase any little mistakes, and your final artwork will look clean, neat, and totally awesome!
Step 1
Start with a circle, a jellybean, and a teardrop. These are foundational shapes of his body.
Step 2
Connect the circle to the jellybean to form the head. Add another teardrop for his big nose. Add a line across the bottom 1/3 of his belly and 3 lines hanging below that. Two little ticks near his shoulders will be where his shirt sleeves end and add a neck.
Step 3
A couple of circles will create his eyes. Add another jellybean inside the first one for his mouth. Add a letter V at the bottom of his neck for his collar, and add a line to either side of his torso for his shirt. Two long hooks out of each sleeve will make his arms, and two rounded shapes with a point make his feet.
Step 4
Add his rectangular pupils, his teeth, some eyelids, and eyebrows. Draw in his collar around your letter V. Connect the leg lines to his feet lines to create the end of his tentacles, and finally, draw the inner portion of his tentacle arms.
Step 5
Add in the smaller details like the dots all over his head, the lines under his eyes, and a tongue. Finish his shirt sleeve and add in each of the tentacle tip shapes (as well as his suckers).
Step 6
Carefully erase all the initial pencil guidelines, leaving a clean, inked drawing of Squidward ready to be colored!
Step 7
Use a soft teal for his skin, a darker shade for the outline of his head and limbs, and brown for his polo shirt. His pupils should be red, and his eyelids a duller blue-green for that sleepy look.

He has an artistic side – Squidward enjoys painting, sculpting, and dreaming of being a famous artist—even if no one else appreciates his work.
