How to draw Sandy Cheeks

Your Final Drawing of Sandy Cheeks

Your finished Sandy Cheeks drawing!

Howdy, Doodleers! Today, we’re heading back to Bikini Bottom to learn how to draw the brains and brawn of the crew—Sandy Cheeks. This karate-loving squirrel from Texas is one of SpongeBob’s closest friends, and drawing her is a fun challenge because of her spacesuit, helmet, and big personality.

Grab your pencil, and let’s get started!

Quick Tip: Always start your drawing lightly with a pencil—this way, you can easily erase any little mistakes, and your final artwork will look clean, neat, and totally awesome!

Step 1

Start with a rectangle with rounded ends for her body. Then, add two half-circles below them for the start of her boots.

Step 2

Add a large circle that overlaps the rectangle for her helmet. Inside, add an oval for her famous cheeks. Use two smaller circles to start her hands. Then add the sleeve of her boots before finally adding the soles to her boots, as well.

Step 3

Add a few circles and a rounded triangle to her cheeks for her eyes and nose. Two lines straight down from the cheeks make her neck. Add some long curves for her arms while also adding her glove details to the hand circles. Add a patch on her chest. Connect your boot shapes to her body for her legs before adding a slight boot detail for dimension.

Step 4

Give Sandy her signature bushy tail. A rounded triangle on her patch starts her acorn. Add some detail lines around the collar. Draw a circle on top of her helmet as the center of her flower. Then add the upper portion of her head by drawing two ears and a small rectangle behind her eyes. Draw a jellybean for her mouth and a rectangle for her bucktooth. We added an eyelid on one eye.

Step 5

Add in the smaller details like eyelashes, pupils, tongue, teeth, and the spot where her bucktooth splits. Add her flower petals. Add lines to her arms as part of her diving suit. At the rivets (circles) around her neck and a zipper down her front. Draw a top to the acorn on her patch before finally adding the circles to each boot.

Step 6

Carefully erase all the initial pencil guidelines, leaving a clean, inked drawing of Sandy ready to be colored!

Step 7

Fill Sandy’s fur with a light brown. Her teeth should stay bright white, and her flower is pink with a yellow center. Color her space suit white with gray boots and gloves, adding red and blue stripes on the sleeves. Finally, make her helmet a light transparent blue to show the glass effect.

At DoofyDoodles, we love giving our characters a playful spin. Try experimenting with Sandy’s expressions—make her look extra tough, super excited, or ready for another jellyfishing adventure.
